The Year 3 block was first used as the Mail Order building in Shannon. It then became the Grocery stores for Sales & Catering/Aer Rianta and was converted to a classroom and staff offices when the Class of 1970-1974 returned from Switzerland. A portacabin was later added to house the library.

It continued to be used as a classroom for Year 3 classes until the new college building opened in 2000. After that it was a student recreation room for a few years until it was closed down in the late 2000’s.

Demolition preparation began in March 2014 with the building and some of the adjoining old flight kitchens fully demolished. A lot of memories were levelled in that demolition – see Facebook stories and comments >>here and >>here  as well as some photos below.

Coincidentally – the first ever students of the block – the Class of 1974 – were here for a 40 year reunion as the building was being levelled this year, bringing the story of the building to a nice ending.
