Many students work part-time in the hotels,
restaurants and tourism establishments located in Shannon and the nearby
towns and Limerick City. In particular, people pursuing the Foundation
Programme for International Students are encouraged to work part-time as
a means of improving their English language fluency.
Both full-time and part-time workers are protected by employment rights
governed by legislation. It is very important for workers to know their
rights with respect to:
- Commencing Employment
- Termination of Employment
- Work Hours and Entitlements
- Pay & the National Minimum Wage
- Health and Safety at Work
The legislation covering these areas is extensive. However, the official
government website of the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment
has detailed the relevant facts in an easy to read format. The relevant
web page may be accessed at http://www.entemp.ie/employment/rights/index.htm |
