Michael Hickey (1968) R.I.P.

We am so sorry to hear that Michael passed away in New Zealand on April 1st 2025.

I met Michael on the occasions that the class of 1968 returned to Shannon and I have vivid memories of his big smile and warm personality. Michael is pictured here with Kate O’Connell when his class celebrated their 50th Anniversary in SCHM in 2014. More photos from this lovely visit are >> HERE

Michael’s classmates remember him so fondly:

“I will always remember him for his generosity and kindness. When my son Jonathan was in his wandering days he landed up on Michael & Ann’s doorstep. They allowed him to stay for weeks. In addition when one of Jonny’s friends turned up he was accommodated as well! His memory will always be blessed with me.”

“Apologies for the poor quality photos but there are 2 photos of Michael from the night at Bunratty back when we celebrated our 50th anniversary. It is a screen shot from a video, he is wearing a crown as he was elected Lord for the evening! A fitting tribute to someone whose gregarious outgoing personality made him stand out in any company he was in.”
