On August 25th 2026, the 75th Anniversary Alumni Golf Classic took place in Powerscourt Golf Club with dinner afterwards in Powerscourt Hotel.
Shannon College of Hotel Management is celebrating its 75th Anniversary this year and it has launched plans for securing future success in the form of a purpose-built, state of the art new campus building. This is a sizeable capital investment and as part of the fundraising, the SCHM Alumni Association hosted a Corporate Golf Day where all money raised will be donated to the New Building fund.
The committee comprised of Richard Butler (1973), Henry Anderson (1975), Enda O’Meara (1987), Robert Byrne (1995) and John Canny (2018). Along with the Alumni President James Enright, they all worked so hard to secure Teams and Hole Sponsorship and it was such a success on the day. Fiona Byrne (1993) and Mary Bergin looked after the Registration Desk and all the admin on the day – thank you both so much!
Two incoming 3rd year students – Danielle Brennan and Minna McMorough Kavanagh – helped out on the day and certainly clocked up the steps with all the jobs they had – primarily getting photos and meeting everyone!

We had the excitement of a Hole in One competition where all golfers had the opportunity to play for a car sponsored by Bluebell Motors. There was a very near winner – just a couple of inches but no joy!
The weather stayed mostly dry and the teams certainly seemed to enjoy themselves!

Powerscourt Hotel was the venue for the Drinks Reception followed by a gorgeous dinner – huge thanks to Eamonn Casey and his team for their 5* hospitality.
As with all competitions, there has to be a winner, and the prizes went to the following:
- 1st Prize – Rockin’ Joes (Brian Dunne, Padraig McGrath, Padraic McNicholas and James Corcoran)
- 2nd Price – Class of 1973 (Chris Garde, Joe Whelan, Donal Reilly and Julian O’Keeffe)
- 3rd Prize – Class of 2021 (James Walton, Fearghal Magill and Niall Maxwell)

Whilst all funds are still being tallied, the final total raised will be in excess of €20,000! This is an amazing result – particularly as we considered postponing it at the start of August.
