Retirement of Dr Phillip Smyth
On August 29th 2002, Dr Phillip Smyth stepped down as Head of Shannon College of Hotel Management in advance of his retirement on November 18th 2022.
Phillip joined Shannon College in February 1988 as lecturer and Deputy Head and 34 years later he is retiring.
We had a small staff event on August 29th to mark the occasion where Phillip handed over to his successor, Mr Adrian Sylver, the new Head of Shannon College. In addition to Phillip’s colleagues from Shannon College, the even was attended by colleagues from NUI Galway and his wife Margaret.

In addition to Phillip stepping down, Deborah O’Hanlon has stepped down as Deputy Head of School and Tracy Hegarty will take over as Deputy Head.
There will be lots more news and events over the coming couple of months but this milestone event was well celebrated.
