What 3 words best describe your experience as a student of Shannon College?

Challenging, fun, useful

What college memory still makes you smile?

Dr Chef Ruane coming to fetch you out of bed when you alarm clock didn’t work!

If you had to re-live your time in Shannon College, would you do anything differently?

No, I loved every second of it. Met some lifelong friends and was equipped in ways for my professional life that I didn’t even appreciate at the time. If I’m critical, maybe I should have spent more time with the accounting text book than the Playstation controller!

What advice would you give to your 20 year old self?

Soak it up. Give your everything but have fun. Be kind, learn about other cultures and broaden your mind.

In your life, what achievement are you most proud of?

Profesionally – being promoted to my current position and having lead my team through the hardships that 2020 (and ongoing) brought to the hospitality industry.

What qualities do you think are most important to have for a rewarding career?

Be humble, lead by example, respect and champion culture within the workplace.

What has been the biggest challenge you have faced during Covid-19?

Trying to keep teams motivated, engaged and feeling united.

Do you have words of wisdom that you try to live by?

Read a book called ‘Legacy’ by James Kerr. That helps me when I am faced with decisions to make both personally and professionally.

What advice do you have for current SCHM students who are looking for inspiration and hope?

Things will bounce back, and in a big way. Keep persevering and try to look for the positives over the last 12 months. SCHM looks great on a CV and you have an amazing network of support through the college. Soldier on and look forward to a great career built by the obstacles you will have overcome. Good luck!
