Peter Huggard (1969) R.I.P.

We were all very sad to hear of the passing of Peter Huggard yesterday. Peter was a member of the only all-male class of Shannon  from 1965 – 1969. Peter met his wife Mary in Shannon College and 2 of their daughters also attended Shannon – Jenny and Louise.   Peter and his family have run The Butler Arms Hotel in Waterville for many years.

Denis Connolly, a classmate of Peter’s, shares the following memories:

“I stayed with him and family at Ashford years ago with fond memories of boating on the lake and gorging ourselves with the most delicious smoked salmon I have ever had anywhere to this day. I stayed at Ashford several times since and while the experience remained good, the salmon was just not the same and the experience lacked Noel’s (his Dad) personal touches throughout.

Peter and I once drove across part of England/Wales to catch a car ferry from Holyhead to Dublin. In was an overnight crossing.  Experiencing rougher than normal seas, we decided to remain close to the bar where there was a great sing song going on, lot’s of fun with cautious imbibing as I was heading to Cavan and Peter to Mayo upon arrival.”

Our thoughts are with Peter’s family, friends and classmates at this time.

Details of Peter’s funeral along with a Book of Condolences are available >> HERE.

May Peter rest in peace.
