Grooming standards line up in the lobby with Mr Smyth & Chef Ruane

If you had to re-live your time in Shannon College, would you do anything differently?

No – Never live in regret of the past

What advice would you give to your 20 year old self?

Be kind to yourself. It’s good to be ambitious but what’s more important is being happy outside of work. Keep up your hobbies, get plenty of sunshine, eat better & stop over consuming alcohol

In your life, what achievement are you most proud of?

Professionally – Making a positive impact on my immediate team through succession planning & paying attention to who they are as individuals outside of work. Personally – Losing 30Kgs and rediscovering old hobbies

What qualities do you think are most important to have for a rewarding career?

Ambition, drive, modesty & human understanding. Trust me when I say you don’t need to be an expert in the product you’re selling to be successful. Your personnel management skills and customer skills are the most crucial. Be yourself & let your own personality shine through

What has been the biggest challenge you have faced during Covid-19?

Being on furlough and feeling like my career ambition & hunger for progression has almost disappeared

Do you have words of wisdom that you try to live by?

Yes – Be Kind to every person that touches or impacts your life.

What advice do you have for current SCHM students who are looking for inspiration and hope?

It’s an incredibly tough time right now. I understand your anxiety & worry for your future career. Don’t stop applying to opportunities online but allow only an hour or two to do so.

Outside of those times focus on your own self growth, whether that be through seeking more training/qualifications, rediscovering hobbies, going for walks etc.

Celebrate your small wins everyday even if that may mean just getting out of bed and making coffee, celebrate it.
